On Wednesday, Otter signed a measure that will require the state of Idaho to sue
Congress if it passes health reforms that force residents to buy insurance. The move
comes as Democrats in Congress hope to pass healthcare reform this weekend.
Similar legislation is pending in 37 other states nationwide.
Constitutional law experts say the move is mostly symbolic because federal laws supersede those of the states. But the movement reflects a growing national frustration with President President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.
Democrats are hoping to pass a version of the reform by this weekend.
Last week, Virginia legislators passed a measure similar to Idaho’s new law, but Otter was the first state chief executive to sign such a bill, according to the American Legislative Exchange Council, which created model legislation for Idaho and other states. The Washington, D.C.,-based nonprofit group promotes limited government.
“Congress is planning to force an unconstitutional mandate on the states,” said Herrera, the group’s health task force director.
Otter, a Republican, already warned U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in December that Idaho was considering litigation if health reform went through. He signed the bill during his first such public ceremony of the 2010 Legislature.
“What the Idaho Health Freedom Act says is that the citizens of our state won’t be subject to another federal mandate or turn over another part of their life to government control,” Otter said. [emphasis added by 9-12]
Minority Democrats in Idaho who opposed the bill called any lawsuits over health care reform frivolous.
Senate Minority Leader Kate Kelly, D-Boise, also complained about the bill’s possible price tag. Those who drafted the new law say enforcement may require an additional Idaho deputy attorney general at a cost of $100,000 a year.
Kelly said that was irresponsible when Idaho is grappling with a $200 million budget hole.
“For Democrats in the Legislature, our priority is jobs,” she said. “We’d rather Gov. Otter was holding a signing ceremony for (a jobs package) meant to put Idaho residents back to work.”

LIsten you old w-2 Demacrats If you would have ever had a business that required employees you would know that a $10.oo pr hour man costes you $15.00 by the time you pay his SSI match his FICA pay his unemployment insurance (state and federal) and dont forget workers comp in case he isnt paying attention and gets hurt on the job and if he does and even if it is his falt your premums ski rocket.
and now they want to add health care to that. the estiments are another 30%.
Two things are going to happen
The business that make the dission to stay in business are going to lay as many people off as they can get by with out and raise there prices to cover the bills (meaning ) the price of everything is going up.
Many businesses are run on such a tight budget now with a skeliton crew there simply isnt any wiggle room and they will be forced totaly out of business.
be prepaired to pay higher prices for ever thing and wait till hell freezes over to get it and by the way I hope you can easly convert your gerage into living space as your kids will be coming home soon unable to find adiquit employment as $10 an hour is still $4 under paverty level.
Enjoy the ride.
There have been many attackes on Democrat congressmen today in retaliation and the media is scorning it and interviewing congresmen who are saying ( there is never any justification for violance )
Well talkin sure has not gotten the message through, they dont seam to be listining, I’m sure there will be many more but I am also sure the media is now instructed to sweep it under the rug so the rest of the nation doesnt hear how much trouble the liberals have gotten themselves into. we still have internet and friends all over this country who will tell us what is going on in there neck of the woods.
